With the plethora of mobile phone choices in the market, the most common and pressing question everyone constantly asks is this: Which one should I buy?
Picking the perfect mobile phone to suit both your needs and budget can be challenging. If you can afford high-end and terrific smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the iPhone 6S, the choice may not be as hard. Mobile phone buying, however, becomes a tad more challenging if you’re on a tight budget. But don’t panic, we’re here to help. Below is a quick guide if you’re looking for a budget phone:
Don’t be too cheap
Even if you’re looking for a cheap mobile phone, it doesn’t mean that you should be a complete and total cheapskate. If you’re especially thinking of using your phone for a couple of years or longer before you upgrade then you should allot a little more for this purchase if you can afford it. The trick is to find the right balance of price and features. Don’t go overboard and don’t go under board either.
Know which type of phone you want
There are different types of phones available in the market. The cheapest of the lot clearly is the basic phones. If you’re only looking for a phone that makes calls and send text messages then sticking with a basic phone is your best bet. A level higher than basic phones are feature phones, which has a set of added features than basic phones. And then you have the smartphones, which is a top choice for majority of mobile users. Smartphones are not only great for basic functions but it usually has Wi-Fi connectivity, higher power, faster performance and a plethora of great features.
Decide on the size
If you’re like most mobile users, chances are high that you’ll probably go for a smartphone. Not only is this type of phone packed with features but there are quite a number of cheap smartphones worthy of your hard-earned money. One way to narrow down your smartphone choices is to decide on the size. Smartphones come with small screens (4.5 to 4.9-inch), medium screens (5.0-5.4-inch) and large screens (5.5-inch or larger). When choosing a size, it usually boils down to your preference.
Research key features
Once you’ve decided on the size, the next step is to research key features. When comparing features, it’s rare to find a phone with perfect features in every aspect especially since you’re looking for a budget phone. In this case, you need to prioritize which features are more important for your mobile phone needs. For instance, if you are going to take a ton of pictures with your phone then you’d want one with a great rear camera. If you want a longer battery life then look for a phone with excellent battery pack. Other key features you may want to take into consideration includes processor, storage, 4G connectivity and more.
To buy or to opt for a phone plan?
After going through the steps above, you should be ready to own your best budget phone. At this point, you’ll just need to decide whether to buy the phone upfront or avail a phone contract plan. With the first option, you’ll have to pay for the phone in full, which means no monthly fixed fees. If you’re going the latter option, you’ll avail a bundle plan on top of the free handset. You’ll also be tied for typically 24 months paying a fixed monthly fee for your handset and phone service plan.
